Even if you're not selling your house, taking some of the tips professional home stagers give their clients can be especially refreshing around the holiday.

When you're getting ready for entertaining and holiday decorations, making the most of your floor space is key. Get rid of things that aren't used or don't go, and clear a path through your house so traffic can flow. Instead of pushing everything up against the walls, arrange furniture in groups for conversation with two chairs and a small table, for instance.
Feature a piece of art by installing wall-washing recessed or track lights above it and painting the wall behind it a contrasting color. Any stager will tell you, nothing gives more bang for your buck than fresh paint.
Also, never underestimate the power of bringing the outdoors in: arrangements of houseplants, evergreen cuttings, dry branches or even stones are great focal points that don't have to be expensive or elaborate to make folks feel at home for the holidays.
